FAQ
OneSixSix is becoming a British Cycling Affiliated club - FAQ
Why are you formalising the club by becoming a British Cycling affiliated club and charging membership fees?
-
To enhance safety and support: British Cycling affiliation provides crucial insurance coverage for all club members during club rides, ensuring everyone is protected on these rides in case of accidents or incidents.
-
To safeguard member benefits: Club membership will provide exclusive discounts with OneSixSix Velo, access to guided rides by experienced leaders, and a dedicated club website with curated routes and member resources.
-
To improve club governance and transparency: As we grow, a constitution, code of conduct and formal membership allows for greater transparency in club finances and decision-making, with members having a voice in electing committee members and voting on club policies.
-
To ensure sustainable growth: Membership fees will help fund club activities, and ensure the long-term sustainability and growth of the club.
How much will it cost
-

Why have we decided to take this move now?
We have been humbled by the level of support from the cycling community. The continued growth of the club has necessitated this formalisation. As our membership base expands, we felt that it was important to have an appropriate structure in place to ensure the safety, support, and enjoyment of all members. Formalising the club with British Cycling allows us to provide a higher level of service and benefit while ensuring the long-term sustainability and growth of our cycling community.
How is the club setting itself up for growth in 2025?
-
Membership Growth: The club will actively promote membership to attract new cyclists and grow the club's membership base.
-
Enhanced Member Experience: The club will focus on providing a high-quality member experience through a revamped members area on our website, well-organized rides, social events, and a supportive community.
-
Revamped Ride Calendar: Our 2025 ride calendar will feature partnerships with top bike brands, adventures themed rides and events for all members.
What does the club insurance cover?
-
British Cycling Club Insurance BC club insurance protects the club, its members and officers from public liability and provides professional indemnity for ride leader led or coached activities. It does not cover individual riders for third party liability or personal accident, injury and damage to property
-
Individual Rider Insurance We require that riders take out a personal insurance policy to protect themselves and others whilst out on the road. A straightforward way to do this is by signing up for a membership with British Cycling at Silver or Gold level or by joining the London Cycling Campaign
How Long do I have to decide if the club is for me?
-
Existing riders and new riders alike will be able to sample the club through three rides before deciding whether or not to become a member of the Cycling Club.
-
For new joiners your three ride trial period will begin after you have completed your introductory ride. The introductory new joiner ride does not count as one of these three rides.
-
This will be effective from the end of January 2025.
